Dream Big–Read! @ Your Green Cove Springs Library This Summer!

By jparker | May 11, 2012

The Green Cove Springs Library is a great place for families to spend time this summer, to learn and to be inspired to Dream Big! Toddlers, tykes, tweens and teens as well as their parents, guardians and caregivers are invited to celebrate their love of reading through interactive programs featuring the state-wide theme of “Dream Big—Read!” from June 14-July 19!

Reading programs are a free and fun way to incorporate reading and related activities into summer family time. Having access to books and library programs throughout the summer can lead to more reading and improved reading skills.

Interactive programs this year will feature storytelling, crafts, music, games and other exciting activities! Performers will include Curious Moon Puppet Theatre, Ronald McDonald, 9th Period Shows, Mad Science of Jacksonville, Magician Cesar Domico, Quite-a-Catch Juggling, Fiddlin’ Dan the Mountain Man, Wild Wonders Animal Show, Too-Funn the Magician, Storytellers Chris Kastle and Pat Nease.

Free registration for ages 3-12 begins Friday, June 1, at the Green Cove Springs Library.  Each child who registers will receive a special “Dream Big–Read!” packet filled with schedules, book logs, activity sheets, a Ronald McDonald’s Reading Card, bookmarks, tattoos, and much more!  Kids can track the hours they read or are read to in order to qualify for the grand prize drawing at our “End of Summer Party” on Thursday, July 19 at 2:30 PM!

Tween and teen registration for special “Do-It-Yourself Craft Days” also begins on Friday, June 1.  This exciting series of workshops will run on Saturdays at 2 PM in June and July starting on June 23!  Students will get to create a Dream Journal, invent a Steampunk gadget, design a sugary treat, and learn to draw a cartoon or caricature!

The 2012 Summer Youth Activities at the Green Cove Springs Library will feature a new service for parents with young infants! Starting on Wednesday, June 20, the Cove Storytellers will present a special “Baby Bookworm” program for ages 0-2 featuring books, songs and action rhymes! No registration is required for these programs.

All library programs are free and are generously sponsored by the Board of Clay County Commissioners, the Friends of the GCS Library, the JP Hall Sr. Children’s Charities, Vystar Credit Union, Parker Service Company, the Rotary Club of Green Cove Springs, Walgreens, Publix Supermarkets, McDonald’s, Sweet Sensations, and Episcopal Children’s Services!
